Definitely get a full size. Good starters brands are Yamahas, Ibanez or Epiphones. Most of these come in a style called dreadnought. If you’re really serious about this you might want to get a Martin DXM (Or DXME if you want an acoustic electric). Its a great instrument and it’s no where near as expensive as the other Martins.

Check out the beginners course at JustinGuitar.com.

I’ve been using his free online course for the last 3 1/2 months and am making great progress.

His first set of video lessons go through all the basic beginner questions and provide you with an overview of the 3 major types of guitars (acoustic, electric, classical). He’ll also talk about some details around the size of your fingers and such that will probably be of interest to you.

Just look for the beginners course on the left navigation area of the website. You’ll be very happy you went through those videos before buying, you’ll be a much more intelligent buyer.

    Enjoy!
